Bread of Life Scriptures (BLS)
1Now the serpent was more crafty than any beast of the field which יהוה God had made. And he said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You shall not eat from any tree of the garden’?”
2And the woman said to the serpent, “From the fruit of the trees of the garden we may eat, 3but from the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, “You shall not eat from it, and you shall not touch it, lest you die.”
4And the serpent said to the woman, “Dying, you shall not die.” 5For God knows in the day you eat from it, your eyes shall be opened, and you shall be like God, knowing good and evil.”
6And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took from its fruit and ate, and she gave also to her husband with her, and he ate.
7And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig-leaves together, and made themselves loincloths.
8And they heard the voice of יהוה God walking in the garden in the breeze of the day; and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of יהוה God in the midst of the trees of the garden.
9And יהוה God called to the man, and said to him, “Where are you?”
10And he said, “I heard Your voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked, and I hid myself.”
11And He said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree which I commanded you not to eat ?”
12And the man said, “The woman who You gave to be with me, she gave me from the tree, and I ate.”
13And יהוה God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?” And the woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”
14And יהוה God said to the serpent, “Because you have done this, cursed are you from among all livestock, and from among all beasts of the field; upon your belly you shall go, and dust you shall eat all the days of your life. 15And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and between her seed. He shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel.”
16 And to the woman He said, “Multiplying, I shall multiply your pain and your conception; in pain you shall bring forth children; and your desire shall be to your husband, and he shall rule over you.”
17And to Adam He said, “Because you have listened to the voice of your wife, and have eaten from the tree which I commanded you, saying, ‘You shall not eat from it’; cursed is the ground for your sake; in pain you shall eat from it all the days of your life. 18 And thorns and thistles it shall bring forth to you; and you shall eat the plants of the field. 19By the sweat of your face you shall eat bread, till you return to the ground; for out of it you were taken; for dust you are, and to dust you shall return.”
20And the man called his wife’s name Eve; for she was the mother of all living.
21And יהוה God made for Adam and for his wife garments of skins, and clothed them.
22And יהוה God said, “Behold, the man has become as one of us, to know good and evil; and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also from the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever –
23Therefore יהוה God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to work the ground from where he was taken.
24So He drove out the man; and He placed at the east of the garden of Eden the cherubim, and the flaming sword which turned every way, to guard the way to the Tree of Life.

Verse 4: “Dying, You Shall Not Die” (The Defiant Repetition)
The Translation Choice: Restored the rhythmic double verb structure lo-mot temutun (“dying, you shall not die”). While standard Bibles rewrite this as “you will not surely die,” the serpent is explicitly copying the exact repetitive formula that God spoke in Chapter 2, simply adding a “not” in front of it.
Verse 7: “Loincloths”
The Translation Choice: Maintained “loincloths” over overly modern words like “aprons.”, The Hebrew word chagorot refers to a basic girding or a wrap around the waist. Using loincloths preserves the reality of their first rushed attempt to cover their nakedness using natural fig leaves.
Verse 8: “Breeze of the Day”
The Translation Choice: Used the literal phrase “the breeze of the day” instead of abstract interpretations like “the cool of the day.” The Hebrew word here is ruach (רוּחַ), which explicitly means wind, breath, or spirit. This highlights the literal sensory atmosphere of the garden when the voice of יהוה God approached them. evening time.
Verse 16: “He and His” (Singular vs. Collective)
The Translation Choice: Used the singular pronouns “he” and “his” regarding the husband’s rule rather than following the collective phrasing found in translations like the JPS 1917. This structural decision emphasizes that the Hebrew text is addressing a specific, singular individual dynamic rather than establishing a broad, collective generic rule.
Verse 16: “Multiplying, I Shall Multiply”
The Translation Choice: Preserved the absolute weight of the infinitive absolute structure harbah arbeh (“multiplying, I shall multiply”). Standard Bibles smooth this out to “I will greatly multiply,” but your master rule preserves the majestic, repeating root word to show that this is a direct, unyielding heavenly sentence.
Verse 24: “Guard”
The Translation Choice: Restored the active, historic term “guard” to describe the purpose of the Cherubim. The Hebrew verb is shamar, which means to watch over, protect, or keep charge of a sacred boundary. This directly links back to Chapter 2:15, where Adam was originally instructed to “tend and guard” the garden, now, heavenly guardians must take over that exact duty.
