Today, I want to share with you more about the God the Creator, the One I’ve come to know, love, and call my God, Elohim. When I first started looking into Scripture more deeply for myself and studying who He is, I began to discover a God I never really knew before. And yet, He had been right there in the Bible this whole time.
In this series, The Creator, we will look at His nature, character, His Name, and His relationships with humans through covenants and how we can start to call on the same Creator as our God. In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.
Genesis 1:1
In the beginning of Scripture, we see Him as the Creator of everything. Not just part of creation, but the One who brought everything into existence, from the heavens, the earth, and life itself. He’s not created or limited like we are. Instead, He reveals Himself as the One who simply is.
The Nature of God the Creator
Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever you had formed the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God.
Psalm 90:2
Everything we see around us had a beginning. The trees, the stars, the oceans, and you and I. That is because we are dependent on something else for our life. Scripture reveals God as the One who was already there before creation itself. Nothing had brought Him into existence. Instead, He is the One who brings everything else into existence.
The Creator is uncreated.
No one gave Him life. No one brought Him into existence. He is the eternal source of all life. As Psalm 90:2 says, “from everlasting to everlasting, you are God.” Because He is the foundation of all reality, He does not change. In a world where everything shifts, He remains the solid, reliable rock.
The One True God
Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, The LORD is one.
Deuteronomy 6:4
This is one of the most important things we need to understand about God. Because with so many different beliefs and ideas out there, it’s easy to get confused about who He is and end up seeing Him in a way that doesn’t match what Scripture actually says. For most of my life, I didn’t really understand this clearly. But Scripture is very clear that Yehovah is one God who is complete, unified, and not divided among other gods or beings. and no one else shares His supreme attribute
- He is All-Knowing (Omniscient): There is nothing hidden from Him. He knows the past, the present, and every detail of the future. He knows the stars by name, and He even knows the thoughts in our hearts before we speak them.
- He is All-Powerful (Omnipotent): His power has no limits. He doesn’t struggle or grow tired. The same power that spoke the universe into existence is completely unmatched by any spiritual or physical force.
- He is Everywhere (Omnipresent): He is not confined to a building, a city, or a specific moment in time. No matter where we go, His presence is already there.
God is Spirit
The Creator is not a physical being limited by a human body, nor is He a physical object made of wood or stone. He is Spirit. This means He is not bound by time, space, or physical limitations. He is not limited to what we can see. Even though He is Spirit, that does not mean He is distant or unreachable. In Scripture, we see Him actively involved with His creation; speaking, guiding, and making Himself known to people.
He is a Personal Being (not in a human sense). But the Creator does possesses personality like us. He speaks, listens, reasons, plans. Throughout Scriptures, He interacts with humanity as a Father, a Shepherd, a King, and a Protector. He is Not a force like gravity or electricity that don’t care about you. The universe doesn’t listen to your thoughts, but the Creator does.
The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob
“I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.” – Exodus 3:6
Throughout Scripture, God introduces Himself as the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob (Exodus 3:6). He is the One who walked with Abraham, guided Isaac, and wrestled with Jacob. He reveals Himself as a God who shows up in our lives and desires a personal and intimate relationship with His creation. He is not some distant god who is estranged, but One who is actively involved. We see God who remembers, who keeps His promises, and who builds relationships across generations. When we open the Scriptures, we are seeing the story of a faithful Father, The Creator our God, who has been working through history and keeping His covenant from generation to generation.
The One who spoke light into existence is the very same One who invites you into a relationship with Him today. Knowing Him as a living God is the absolute first step on this beautiful journey.
